JIK 2010 Report
Domjam
For the last few years the first prize used to be a replication of the Cologne Cathedral, so we thought it might be fitting to give the opportunity to see the real thing and start the weekend with a proper Dom-Jam. Respect to Manual Zach for deniing a lift from Dünk just to be able to be first at the “holy” spot. Unfortunately, this time it was quite filthy due to incontinency of some strangers. But the present Jammers didn`t care and had some nice jams - Mystiq, Waldi, Kasten Kölsch, Junior Rocker, Mirco, Tim, Nötzi, Tobi, Sascha S., Johanna, Bibi, Mark, Justinho, Nico, Phil, Jan and Raphael, Alex, Judith, Freddy, Jacqueline, Flo – in order of appearance. Around nine the bunch left the city centre and headed for the gym at the university some making a detour via various take-aways, others ordering Pizza. But after refuelling with new jamergy, most didn´t take much time to rest and instead headed on to the
Friday Night Jam
Musical support came from the Junior Block Rocker inside, and various guitar magicians (I recognized Alex, Justinho and Manu rocking the wires) outside the gym. Not before half past two was the last catch caught and the last combo finished. Finally, everybody dropped…
Saturday Tourney
A short night it was. Coffee and breakfast appear to be handy in times like these. Fortunately, we had both. Decent morning jams followed for some, others were just satisfied with watching. “Surprisingly”, we did not start the Pairs Format at 12:00 but with a slight delay at 14:00. But once we got started, we were able to witness many terrific performances and memorable moves. The routine of the day was probably the semi-final of Manu C. and Sascha who played wonderfully in tune with the music. The other teams making it into the finals knew what they were supposed to beat and they managed ver
y well. Still, Manu C. and Sascha S. turned out
to be the best team on that day with another great show. They were followed by a well matched mixture of grace and power from “Wördi” and “Muh” and a beautiful demonstration of flawless technical Freestyle Frisbee by Pavel and Phil…Exhausted but contend we proceeded to start the
Saturday Night
@ the “Pütz”, a typical Kölsch brewery. The local beer was an appropriate hydration substance and the “Köbes” (waiter) did a good job giving us no chance to fall back into dehydration. The rest lies in the realm of the unknown and mysterious and is part of history… . But a few (living) legends roam among us…well seriously, we enjoyed ourselves and the party continued at the “Underground” with different styles of music and some made it (un)willingly an all nighter.
Sunday Mop-Op
Another short night it was. After another tasty breakfast we started the day jamming along …at mid-day sharp we began with our mob-ob (a format of playing we copied from the “Superhein” tourney they held in Portland this year). Bo who came only for Sunday at 1 pm could help smiling when he entered the gym seeing so many players having fun. Most of the time there were about 3 to 4 prospering jams simultaneously. The advantage of this format is that it aims to produce winners only. According to the feedback we got so far we archived this.
A German saying goes that everything which is good has to end at some point …
Sunday After-Jam Hydration
But not yet… Coming home (Freestyle WG) quite fucked the last ones standing got really fucked. Karlsruuh crew, Discollegen and those who stayed another night spent a third night reviewing the tourney, finishing the last bits of the food and drinks (which had to be restocked, actually). Manu cooked pasta Italian style, fried bananas with Pavel and Mystiq (Manu+Pavel+Mystiq-Style), Justinho performed brilliatly on the guitar while singing. (great voice btw.) Later we just kept talking freestyle…
Quote Mark: “It was fucking great!”
Below some hard facts for the tournament:
Tournament will start on Friday the 5th in the afternoon at the Cologne Cathedral with an opening Jam for early arrivals. Let us know in your registration form if you can and want to take part!! German participants please also choose if you want to take part in the decision making process of founding a national Freestyle Club on Saturday morning. You are also asked for this in the registration form.
For participating players we charge ca. 10 Euro which includes players fee and food for Saturday and Sunday .On Saturday evening we planed to go to a typical Cologne restaurant where players and guests pay for themselves. We are also working on a party programm for those who still have some power left. The overnight stay is for free, but all of you have to bring their sleeping stuff with you, including sleeping pads (Iso – Matten). If you have problems bringing this stuff: let us know IN ADVANCE and we will organize some for you.
For people arriving on Friday night: As the gym hall we are sleeping in (Halle No.8) is used for university courses before, we are not able to enter the gym hall before 22.00. But we will be there before. So, if you arrive earlier and you don’t jam at the cathedral you can call us and we can meet at the entrance to the university (Carl – Diem – Weg) or at our place.

Format:
As we felt like having a lack of Jam time at indoor tournaments (especially in the last year’s JIK) and Sascha experienced the Mob Op Format of the Super Hein Tournament 2010 we decided to copy it. This means on Saturday we will have a regular Open Pairs tournament and on Sunday a Open Mob Op devision with some specials beside the jammin’ playground.
